Francis Marion Shaw, Sr.
Francis Marion Shaw, Sr. is the son of Jeremiah Shaw, Jr. and his wife Rachel Horne Shaw. He was born January 5th 1846, the 15th of 16 children. He was enlisted in the Florida First Infantry Reserves toward the end of the Civil War, and was wounded in the right arm in a small skirmish at Cedar Keys, Florida on July 6, 1864. He was taken to Lake City, Florida where his arm was amputated just below the right shoulder. He marrried Rachel Moore Allen (1835-1921), widow of Barzilla Allen, who died in the Civil War. She had three children by her first husband, William B. Allen, John L. Allen, and Eliza Allen Knight. Marion and Rachel had 6 children of their own; Francis Arthur Shaw, Ida Jane Shaw Parrish, Jesse Shelby "Dock" Shaw, Effie Shaw Clements, Lacy L. Shaw, and Chester D. Shaw, Sr. Marion and Rachel lived and farmed in the New Lois community, just west of Ray City, but lived their later years in town.
