Col. Jos. A. Alexander, an attorney in Nashville, Georgia. He was the lead defense counsel in the trial of Marshall Lewis, a negro who shot and killed Asst. Postmaster Clifford Rutherford at Lenox on April 26. 1909. Lewis was tried, found guilty, and was then executed by haning on July 9, 1909. It was the last execution by hanging in the Old Berrien County Jail.
