Uniforms came out of storage and nearly every ex-GI wore his old unit insignia.  Pausing before the Honor Roll of Berrien County men were these vets, wearing poppies, discharge emblems and Legion cap:  Alton Futch, Navy; James Swindle, Army Air Force; Earl Buckholtz, Marines; adn Jim Perry, Infantry, in upper right panel.

Sergeant Emory M. Taylor

Emory M. Taylor was born July 13, 1924, in Berrien County, Georgia, to Mae Swindle Taylor and Carlie M. Taylor. His grandfather, W. Lawrence Swindle, was appointed the first mayor of the city of Nashville in 1892 at the incorporation of the city.
Emory married Emma Lou (Pat) Clements of Jeff Davis County in 1946 after he returned from WWII. Pat had come to Ray City to teach and coach at the school in Ray City until she retired. Emory and Pat are the parents of Michael Taylor (Suzanne) and grandparents of Natalie who reside in Fernandina, Florida.
Emory was inducted into the United States Army at Ft. McPherson, Georgia, on March 6, 1943, and separated from the Army January 2, 1946. Emory served in the Southern Philippines, New Guinea and Luzon after attending parachute school and jump training at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Emory received the World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with the three Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead,  the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge and a Good Conduct Medal.
Emory resides in Ray City, Georgia, and still owns the farm purchased by his great-grandfather, John G. Taylor, in 1864. Emory retired from Civil Service work at Moody Air Force in 1958. His wife, Pat, taught school in Ray City for many years before her death.
